POWER
Celebrating the stories of ordinary people finding epic strength, interwoven with Charmaine’s stories of touring the world as a circus strong lady, POWER is an uplifting circus-theatre show which asks: How can we feel powerful in an uncertain world … and how do we find strength beyond just lifting heavy things?
Charmaine Childs
Charmaine is an Australian-British artist making work primarily for outdoor arts festivals, whose solo show STRONG LADY offers a spotlight on female strength and male kindness as she lifts men from the audience. It has been performed in 24 countries and in 6 languages. She also acts as an acro-base including with companies such as Mimbre, and GOP. This is her first indoor theatre show, supported by an Arts Council England Develop Your Creative Practice award which enabled her to work with an array of collaborators including Ockham’s Razor, Complicité, and Spy Monkey. POWER is directed by Emma Bernard and choreographed by Anthony Missen of Company Chameleon.
POWER is co-commissioned by the Lowry and the Lawrence Batley Theatre, and the recipient of the inaugural Troop / Creative Arts East New Ideas Award to develop a new piece for rural touring.
