London Tattoo Convention October 2006
Visited the London Tattoo Convention on October 8th, to see the many Body Artists at work, and do some exploration around the Brick Lane area of London. The Convention is the second one at the Truman Brewery, with several thousand visitors, who could see work from about 180 tattoo artists from all over the world. I was amazed by the designs, some beautiful artwork, and watched designers drawing new templates. Some brave souls had new tattoos applied, with various ancient and modern methods. Tattoos originated in Polynesia and sailors visiting the islands had them done, bringing them home to Europe as long ago as the late 18th Century.
Many visitors had tattoos, of various levels, from the odd arm, to a full-on body covering, and were happy to be photographed, pulling up clothes to show the designs off. A great mix of people too, from punks, goths, metalheads, and new age to bikers, all keenly interested in the work on each stand. Japan and Chinese tattooists were present, and a marvellous gallery of Japanese prints added to the day. Sadly, only had a couple of hours there, as my Flamenco event was on too.(news on that later). Will definitely go back next year.
